Meet Our School Counselors

Ricki Perry - School Counselor, serving grades 6 & 7

Mrs. Perry received her undergraduate degree from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas before completing her graduate degree in School Counseling from the University of Virginia. Mrs. Perry is licensed in school counseling for grades PreK - 12, and has her Nationally Certified Counselor endorsement. In her free time, Mrs. Perry enjoys gardening, camping, hiking, kayaking, and spending time with her family. As a Nelsonian, you might see Mrs. Perry enjoying a soccer game, taking a swim in the Tye River Hippie Hole or even getting groceries at the Lovingston Food Lion. :)

Summer White - School Counselor, serving grade 8

Mrs. White received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Liberty University, and is thrilled to begin her school counseling career at Nelson. Mrs. White is originally from upstate New York, is newly married, and has a passion for helping students achieve their goals. She is very excited to walk with students through the transition into high school. Mrs. White is also assisting with the Middle School Drama Club this year! Outside of work, Mrs. White enjoys hiking in the Blue Ridge, spending time with friends and family with a good cup of coffee, and attending Liberty athletic events! 

Mission & Vision

NMS School Counseling Mission: The school counseling program at Nelson Middle school will provide service, support and advocacy for all students, parents, teachers and administrators to create an atmosphere that promotes lifelong learning. This is accomplished through core curriculum classroom lessons, small groups, individual student planning, and responsive services that are reflective of the data derived about our students’ needs.

NMS School Counseling Vision: Nelson Middle School will foster students who become skilled, responsible, and productive citizens. They will be ready for the rigor of high school and excited about the career and college opportunities ahead of them. The comprehensive school counseling program at Nelson Middle School will empower all students to realize and reach for their full potential and make a positive difference in the world around them.
