Meet Our TRES Administration Team

Mrs. Cofflin

Heather Cofflin, Principal

Dear Tye River Families,

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year at Tye River Elementary School!  I am so proud to share that I am your new principal and I look forward to a great year of growing and learning together.

I have been in the field of education for almost 20 years.  I was an administrator previously in Campbell County and I have taught in Bedford and Appomattox Counties.  I received my undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech, a Master’s of Special Education from the University of Lynchburg, and a Master’s of PK-12 Administration and Supervision from the University of Lynchburg as well.

My family and I currently reside in the New London area.  I am originally from Altavista and have always loved living in Central Virginia.  My husband, Jessie, and I have three wonderful children - Jessica, Grace, and Hunter.  We enjoy spending time outdoors and watching football!

I firmly believe that working together with families and the community is the best way to help our students be successful.  At Tye River, we focus strongly on academics while also having an emphasis on leadership skills, friendship skills, problem solving skills, citizenship, and communicating with one another in a productive manner.  With all of us working together, I am excited to see what the school year will bring for us all!

Colby Lopez, Assistant Principal

Dear Tye River Families,

I am so proud to serve as your Assistant Principal! I am a graduate of Nelson County High School (Go Govs!), Longwood University, and Lynchburg College. I was also a student at Tye River Elementary School the very first year that the school opened! I remember the student body voting for and choosing the school colors and mascot. Go Tigers!

My husband and I live in Nelson County with our two daughters. We enjoy traveling and spending time with family.

I truly believe in the Vision and Mission of Nelson County Public Schools, and the drive to create lifelong learners who contribute to society. As a lifelong citizen of Nelson County, I am deeply invested in the betterment of our schools and students. I look forward to continuing to build relationships with the Tye River community!
