As a reminder - all rising 7th graders are required by law to get the following vaccines in Virginia. An updated immunization record verifying receipt of the vaccines must be provided to our School Nurse prior to the first day of school on Thursday, August 8, 2024. Students who have not received the following vaccines and have not provided an updated immunization record to NMS School Nurse prior to the first day of school will not be able to attend school until the School Nurse has received verification that the following state required immunizations have been received.
Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap): The Tdap vaccine is required by Virginia law for all students entering seventh grade.
Meningococcal conjugate (MenACWY): Students are required to have one dose of the MenACWY vaccine before entering seventh grade.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV): The HPV vaccine is required by law for students entering seventh grade. As a parent or guardian, you have the right to decide if your child receives the HPV vaccine. Please take the opportunity to discuss the HPV vaccine with your healthcare provider.
Please contact your student's healthcare provider or make plans to visit the upcoming Health Fair. The Nelson Community Health Fair will be held on Saturday, July 20th from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM at the NCHS/NMS complex. Immunizations and free Sports Physicals will be available during the Health Fair.
Thank you in advance for meeting these requirements so that your student will be able to begin their school year on August 8, 2024.
